Meet Erin Mackey, Children’s Author

A little background about me…..

I grew up in New Jersey not far from the Jersey Shore – Asbury Park, Belmar and Spring Lake were some of the beach towns near me.  I was blessed to be raised by two Christian parents, who are still together and serving the Lord today!  I have one sister that is younger than me, and I am very glad that we are able to spend so much time together!  My senior year of high school wound up being completed in West Virginia after my father was transferred to Leesburg, Virginia.  It was a BIG CHANGE, but it was a blessing in disguise.

I worked as a nurse for 13 years in various specialties, including Pediatrics and Corrections.  I have stopped nursing, and currently work at Wells Fargo as a Systems Analyst.  I also obtained a degree in Forensics and graduated Summa cum Laude from Mountain State University in 2008.  However, it was while working as a nurse that I met my husband Larry and we have been married for 5 years now.  We have two cats:  Sheamus and Coal, and they have the run of our home in West Virginia.

I always did well writing papers for school, but didn’t have any desire to do any extracurricular writing when I was growing up.  It wasn’t until my first niece Emily was born that I started writing Children’s Books.  My first four books that I wrote were picture books, which I hope to publish in the future.  I then started writing Laurel Hill: New Beginnings.  I thank the Lord every day for the words he gave to me for this book!  Laurel Hill contains some events that are pulled from my childhood – especially the amusement park as we lived very close to Great Adventure in New Jersey and enjoyed going as often as we could!

My inspiration for writing Children’s Books is my nieces and nephew:  Emily, Kate, Morgan, and Gabe.  They give me new perspective on everyday events and remind me what the joy of childhood was like, since we often forget as adults.
